Airmen and their supervisors from Team Shaw came together for a dorm cleanup here, Aug. 27.

Cleaning up the dorms consisted of taking down spider webs in hard-to-reach areas, pressure washing each building and taking care of landscaping around the dorms.

The dorm cleanup was also an opportunity for supervisors and their Airmen to work in a casual environment and get to know each other on more of a personal level.

Airman Devon Parrish, 20th Comptroller Squadron budget and accounting technician, said it is nice to have his supervisor out there working beside him. It makes him feel more comfortable to come to his supervisor as a mentor and not just his boss in the work environment.

Staff Sgt. Matthew Holguin, 20th Comptroller Squadron budget and accounting technician said he was glad to have the opportunity to come out and help his Airmen during dorm cleanup. Otherwise, he would have never seen their living conditions or how they upkeep their facilities.
The dorm cleanup also encouraged the dorm residents to come out and interact with each other while working around their living areas.

Holguin and Parrish agree that it is important for supervisors and their Airmen to do the dorm cleanup together, because it gives them an opportunity to relate to each other in a relaxed environment.

“It is a great way for everyone to come out and meet,” said Parrish.

After the Airmen joined forces with their supervisors to tidy up the exterior of the dorms, they enjoyed a BBQ to wrap up the day.
