Editor's note: The Warrior of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding Airmen on Shaw Air Force Base who have exemplified the core values.

This week's Warrior of the Week is Airman 1st Class Brandon Alvarez, 28th Operational Weather Squadron forecaster. He was chosen for his exceptional work on the job.

As soon as he arrived on station he volunteered for the honor guard, according to Master Sgt. Jason Wright, 28th OWS first sergeant. He also stepped up to become a physical training leader, and has become a mentor to Airmen struggling with PT.

"A couple weeks ago a chief master sergeant was pulling weeds in preparation for the arrival of the eighth Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force," said the first sergeant. "Airman Alvarez walked up behind him and told the chief to stop and that he would take care of it. He stepped up and did the right thing. I'd love to have about 48 of him."

Airman Alvarez is 27-years old and his associate degree in visual communication and is
working towards a bachelor's in meteorology.
