Energy
100930-F-000X-001 October has arrived and with it comes Energy Awareness Month. On September 13, 1991, President George Bush proclaimed October as Energy Awareness Month. The intensity of efforts to become more energy efficient has done nothing but increase since that time. On October 5, 2009, President Barack Obama signed Executive Order 13514 which highlights the importance and goals of our country's energy conservation, reduction and sustainability goals. The goals are to save taxpayer dollars, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and contribute to national security. The emphasis is so strong that almost every major Federal facility now employs a full time Energy Manager (EM). Most military installations also supplement their efforts with contract Resource Efficiency Managers (REMs). This year, Shaw has a wide range of activities planned, all focusing on energy communications. It started with the installation of the banner on Shaw Drive. Among other things, we plan to have messages on the marquee, "Energy Alert Messages" on the AtHoc system, roll out of the ACC's "Power of One" campaign and the high point: Energy Awareness Day at the BX. It is scheduled for Thursday, October 21, from 1100 to 1400. We will have various energy related sponsors and vendors providing energy conservation information and promotional give-aways. There will also be FREE tee-shirts and hot dog lunches while they last. Let's all participate and "make energy a consideration in all we do".
