Arbor Day 2013 Tree Dedication

Terrence Walter, 20th CES commander and Chris Aamold, 20th CES deputy commander dedicate a tree at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., April 19, 2013. The dedication ceremony was held in honor of Arbor Day, a national holiday since April 10, 1872, initiated by Julius Sterling Morton, President Grover Cleveland’s (1893-1897) secretary of agriculture. The holiday honors the significances of trees in our lives and communities and encourages the planting of new trees. Trees provide shade and shelter; reduce global warming by reducing carbon monoxide in the atmosphere, clean the air we breathe and are often used to beautify landscapes.
