Shaw AFB: Taking the track less traveled
Michelle Hill (left), 20th Logistics Readiness Squadron D-Flight conductor/engineer, opens the fueling station gates and uncouples the rear cars from the locomotives (lead cars) as Adam McDowell, 20th LRS D-Flight engineer/conductor waits to receive confirmation before moving the locomotives at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., Aug. 09, 2012. Due to the fact that the locomotives are limited by the directions they may move while carrying a load, precise and calculated steps must be taken to dock the tank cars for fueling. This process could involve moving, coupling and uncoupling multiple cars, multiple times, to properly maneuver the right cars into the fueling station.
