Kitten survives flightline accident

Mila, a three-legged kitten, plays on a chair at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., on July 24, 2012. Mila was rescued by Senior Airman James Helmic, 20th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron weapons team chief and a native of Phillipsburg, N.J, after she was discovered fatally injured in a Chevy engine compartment here on June 26, 2012. One month after the accident, $3,000 was raised on Indiegogo.com/operationsavemila for Mila’s veterinary bills which cost over $2,000. According to Helmic’s wife, Airman 1st Class Katharina Helmic, 20th Maintenance Operation Squadron aircraft scheduler and a native of Omaha, Neb., the additional money raised will go to shots and other veterinarian care needed for Mila to grow up healthy.
