POW speaks about being a wingman
Jack Van Loan takes questions from Airmen at the base theater Sept. 27, 2011, Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. Van Loan was a prisoner of war in North Vietnam after he was shot down on May 20, 1967. Van Loan was held until his release on March 4, 1973. Van Loan was the guest speaker, and he spoke to Shaw members for Wingman Safety Day and highlighted the importance of being a good wingman. Van Loan also spoke of the ways he survived his approximately six years in captivity. One of the most important things he stressed was to have goals. He told Team Shaw successful leaders have goals.
