Riders of the Storm
110114-F-0000X-022 Twenty years ago this month, 458 20th Tactical Fighter Wing Airmen took part in Operation Desert Storm to liberate the Kingdom of Kuwait from Iraqi occupation. Two-man crews flew strike and electronic warfare versions of the General Dynamics F-111 "Aardvark," like the wing commander's jet shown here, in 1,798 combat sorties without a single loss. The 20th TFW flew F-111s until arriving back at Shaw in 1994 and transitioning to the F-16 "Viper." (Courtesy photo by Mike Freer)
