Lighting strikes behind A-10 Thunderbolt IIs on the Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., flightline during an early morning thunderstorm Oct. 20, 2009. The A-10 Thunderbolt II was assigned to the 55th Fighter Squadron here at Shaw from 1994 to 1996. The Department of Defense has proposed eliminating the aircraft from the Air Force arsenal due to budget cuts. Regardless of the outcome, Team Shaw is proud to display the aircraft for all to see and the A-10 will always have a home at Shaw. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Kenny Holston/Released)
