Three minutes of emergency
SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Capt. Brian Crum, 77th Fighter Squadron F-16CJ pilot, safely landed his damaged aircraft three minutes after takeoff Sept. 21, 2006. His aircraft's jet engine was on fire and during takeoff the engine fire ignited the flightline field. With the assistance of his flight lead, Capt. Julie Moore, the pilots were able to save the aircraft and more importantly they safely avoided populated areas. The pilots received Airman Medals for their successful efforts.
