Airman maintains fire hydrants

U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Justin Thompson, 20th Civil Engineer Squadron water and fuels systems maintenance journeyman, releases the water valve on a fire hydrant at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., Aug. 25, 2014. To prevent corrosion to the pipes and fire hydrant, water is released for up to five minutes, depending on the rust content of the water, to ensure low build-up of sediment in the hydrant.
