"Never Forget"

The words “never forget” are engraved at the base of a flag pole with a list of the fallen firefighters from New York Fire Department 343 on Sept. 11, 2001 at the Sumter Fire Department, Sumter, S.C., Sept. 11, 2014.The Sumter Fire Department held a 9/11 Ceremony in remembrance of those who have fallen. On Sept. 11, 2001, four commercial U.S. jetliners were hijacked by 19 al Qaeda terrorists, deliberately crashing two of the planes into the World Trade Center and a third plane into the Pentagon. After learning of the other attacks, passengers and crew members on the fourth plane attempted to commandeer control and the plane was crashed into an empty field in Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 people died that day, the single largest loss of life from a foreign attack on American soil. “Never Forget,” is the phrase used to acknowledge the selfless courage that was demonstrated that day.
