Thunder streaks across South Carolina
Three U.S. Air Force RF-84 Thunderstreaks assigned to the 17th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron fly through the air over South Carolina circa 1950. In addition to being the first jet specifically designed for photo reconnaissance, the RF-84 was also one of the first aircraft flown by the U.S. Air Force Precision Flying Demonstration Team – the Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds performed approximately 90 air shows using RF-84s between 1954 and 1957. (Photo courtesy of 20th Fighter Wing historian)
