German air force pilot tells “Shawesome” tales
German air force Col. Jürgen Erbeck, previously an active-duty pilot and now reservist acting as a German air attaché to the U.S. Embassy, sits during an interview at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., Aug. 9, 2016. The colonel visited Shaw to speak about his past experiences and learn about the current 20th Fighter Wing mission. Erbeck was assigned to the 16th Training Squadron at Shaw in 1975, first as a student and then later in 1981 as an instructor. During his time flying RF-4C Phantoms, Erbeck completed more than 3,000 hours in the air. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Destinee Sweeney)
