Airmen test engine at max afterburner power
U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Jarrod Adams, 20th Component Maintenance Squadron aerospace propulsion journeyman, checks a magnetic chip detector (MCD) at a test cell facility at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., March 3, 2017. While an F-16CM Fighting Falcon engine is tested, the MCD attracts metal shavings from bearings in the engine. Because each bearing is made of a different type of metal, nondestructive inspection Airmen can pinpoint which bearing is failing and needs replacement.
