BRS opt-in period approaches

The Blended Retirement System (BRS) goes into effect Jan. 1, 2018. Eligible Airmen will have the option to opt in to the BRS during 2018 or remain under the legacy retirement plan. Previously, approximately 81 percent of service members separated from the military without receiving retirement benefits, but under the new plan, about 85 percent of service members may receive some benefits if they serve more than two years.
