Col. (Ret.) James Randall, lead plaintif in the case Randall v. Sumter School District, watches a historical marker dedication ceremony via video conferencing at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. Feb 13.Due to the unsatisfactory conditions of Sumter’s public education system, Randall served as lead plaintiff in the case Randall v. Sumter School District and he and 13 other African American Shaw Airmen armed with their team of four attorneys sought to discontinue segregation in Sumter school district in 1963.
