Shaw Air Force Base Deepens its Roots on Arbor Day

Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Everett Sharpe, South Carolina Forestry Commission (SCFC) community staff forester, presents Col. Kristoffer “Smirk” Smith, 20th Fighter Wing commander, with the 2023 Tree City USA designation during an Arbor Day celebration at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., Dec. 1, 2023. The SCFC worked closely with the 20th Civil Engineer Squadron to ensure the habitat of Shaw AFB is adequately maintained to qualify for a Tree City designation.
