SHAW HOSTS FAMILY WELLNESS AND RESILIENCY EXPO

The Airman and Family Readiness Center will host a family wellness and resiliency expo from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the community activity center here.

"It is a family wellness event that provides avenues and info to families to introduces resources on and off base," said Roger Gardner, Shaw AFRC chief. "It is also a chance to network with all the agencies on base."

According to officials, "The . . . expo will create a collaborative action plan for families; promote responsive parenting; providing caring, stimulating support groups; and fostering innovative, personalized programs for families at any stage of deployment. The expo visitors are able to see, hear, feel, and even taste the experience of total wellness."

The event is open to all Shaw single, married, active-duty, Guard, Reserve, Department of Defense civilians and retired members and their families.

Special guests include: Keisha Bolden, department of employment workforce representative, the Highhills Elementary school choir and many other representatives from base and local agencies.

The expo will promote the integrated delivery systems, which promotes family preparedness through education and participation in readiness support functions, Gardner said.

Families and service members will learn and network with agencies that help provide assistance during extended absences of the military member while deployed or remote, emergencies and natural disasters.
