SHAW CHILDREN PARTICPATE IN OPERATION TAKE-FLIGHT Published Sept. 21, 2010 By 030910 SHAW AIR FORCE, S.C. -- Airmen's children will experience what it's like to process to deploy in Operation Take-Flight at the deployment processing center here from 3:30 to 7 p.m. tomorrow. "The event is to help kids understand the deployment process and see what their parents experience," said Master Sgt. Felicia Corley, 20th Force Support Squadron readiness noncommissioned officer in charge. "It helps eliminate stress because they can understand what their parents are going through." The children get to do many of the same things as their parents, even eating "Meals, Ready-to-Eat," which will be "Lunchables." They will go through the processing line, get a mission brief and deploy to a make-believe location. At the deployed location, Shaw Airmen will join together to give the children a learning experience about different careers in the Air Force. The explosive ordnance disposal team will bring out their vehicles, bomb suits and robots. The 20th Security Forces Squadron will also be out in full force, along with ambulances and a fire truck for the children, Sergeant Corley said. The kids will return from the deployment with a homecoming at the DPC where they will receive a certificate of completion. "This is the third year Shaw has been participating in the Air Force-wide program," Sergeant Corley said. "Parents really love this program because it shows the kids what they go through."
