Residents near Shaw Air Force Base may notice increased flying activity during evening hours next week due to a temporary increase in the number of flights after sunset.

These flights provide Shaw F-16 pilots with the opportunity to train with night vision equipment and practice tactics that are critical to survivability in combat.
In addition, Shaw's 20th Fighter Wing is conducting a regularly scheduled simulated deployment exercise on base Sunday through Friday.

During the exercise, there may be traffic delays near the base gate. In addition, area residents may hear controlled explosions as part of the exercise.

For more information, contact Tech. Sgt. Kevin Williams at (803) 895-2029 or evenings, contact the on-call public affairs representative through the Shaw command post at (803) 895-5850.
