The 20th Fighter Wing and local Sumter community police, fire, and ambulatory services are scheduled to conduct an active threat exercise here March 16, 2018.

The exercise will take place at the 20th Medical Group clinic. Base patrons can expect increased traffic, emergency vehicles, and unusual activities including the use of simulated munitions around the clinic between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Individuals are encouraged not to call emergency service unless in response to a real-world situation unrelated to the exercise.

The combined exercise is designed to build on an already strong relationship between Shaw Air Force Base and the Sumter Community, increasing interoperability should the need arise for a collective response to incidents in the local area.

The clinic will not be open to patients during the exercise, however the base exchange pharmacy will be open for patients to fill prescriptions.

Media interested in attending the event should RSVP by 3:00 p.m. March 15, 2018 by contacting the 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs office at 20FWPublicAffairs@us.af.mil or 803-895-2019.
