The pilot of the missing F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft from the 20th Fighter Wing here has been identified as Capt. Nicholas Giglio. His fighter apparently collided with another Shaw F-16 in mid-air over the Atlantic Ocean around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, about 40 miles east of Folly Beach, S.C.

Both aircraft were participating in night training maneuvers over the Atlantic.

The second F-16, piloted by Capt. Lee Bryant, was able to land safely at Charleston AFB, S.C. Captain Bryant was unharmed.

Aircraft and surface vessels of the U.S. Coast Guard are combing the ocean east of Charleston, but Captain Giglio and his aircraft are still missing at this time.

A board of officers will investigate the accident. As additional details become available, they will be released.
