Shaw aircraft jettisoned external fuel tanks Published Sept. 21, 2006 By 030906 SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- An Air Force F-16CJ fighter aircraft jettisoned two external fuel tanks today at about 1:30 p.m. after experiencing a mechanical malfunction on takeoff from Shaw Air Force Base. One tank has been located and a cordon established at the intersection of Bronco and Dowry Roads in Wedgefield, S.C. area. Shaw Air Force Base and Sumter County responders are searching for the additional fuel tank. If located by individuals, please contact the Shaw AFB Public Affairs office at 895-2019, the Shaw AFB Command Post at 895-5850 or local authorities.A board of officers will investigate the incident.Additional information will be provided as details become available.
