Shaw Personnel Deploy in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom Published April 21, 2006 By 040503 SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Nearly 130 Airmen are slated to deploy from Shaw Sunday in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. They will deploy for about four months to bases in South West Asia in support of the global war on terrorism. “We’re proud that Shaw Airmen are getting their chance to serve at the front lines of the global war on terrorism,” said Col. Philip Ruhlman, 20th Fighter Wing commander. “They’ll have the opportunity to show the world their professionalism and dedication as Expeditionary Combat Airmen.” Media representatives wishing to cover the departure should contact Staff Sgt. Alicia Prakash by 4:30 p.m. Friday at (803) 895-2019. Interested media should arrive at Shaw’s main gate by 5:15 p.m. Sunday. Airmen and their families will be present for interviews. NOTE: A photo ID is required for all non-military personnel entering the base. In addition, vehicle operators must present a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and vehicle registration.
