Shaw F-16 Pilot Located

The pilot on board the Air Force F-16 that crashed around 5:40 p.m. today was located by the U.S. Coast Guard around 7:40 p.m. and transported to a U.S. Navy war ship for stabilization. The pilot, Capt. Ted Shultz with the 55th Fighter Squadron, will be taken via Coast Guard helicopter to a medical facility for further treatment. 

The aircraft, which crashed about 30 miles off the coast of South Carolina, was from Shaw Air Force Base, SC. At the time of the accident, it was participating in a training mission. 

A board of officers will investigate the accident. As soon as additional details become available, they will be provided.
