A free, family-friendly event, the Shaw Air and Space Expo will highlight 20 hometown heroes who inspire service and selflessness in their community. One hero will be selected to fly in the back seat of an F-16 Fighting Falcon with the United States Air Force Thunderbirds. “We are so thankful to be a part of a community that cares about the Airmen, Soldiers and families stationed at Shaw,” said Maj. Christopher Beckett, Shaw Air and Space Expo director. “Our community enhances our lives and mission, and we want to display our gratitude by recognizing others who do the same during our air show.” Heroes might include, but are not limited to: a citizen who heroically saved a life, a renowned teacher, a community humanitarian volunteer, a local first responder, or someone who dedicates their life to working with at-risk children. Individuals that are not eligible for this program include military members, elected and appointed officials and unit honorary commanders. To nominate a Hometown Hero, simply fill out the application located at www.shaw.af.mil/2022-Shaw-Air-Space-Expo by Jan. 28, 2022.
