Gate runner shot, injured after attempting to illegally enter Shaw AFB Published Dec. 23, 2022 20th Fighter Wing SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- An Airman assigned to the 20th Security Forces Squadron shot and injured an individual attempting to illegally gain access to Shaw Air Force base at approximately 1:30 p.m. Dec. 23. The injured individual was transferred to a nearby medical facility to receive treatment. "Our security forces personnel are trained to respond to a variety of situations to ensure the safety of our personnel and assets," said Col. Kristoffer Smith, 20th Fighter Wing commander. A joint investigation is ongoing by the 20th Security Forces Squadron in collaboration with local and federal authorities. More information will be released as it becomes available.
