1/29/2013 - SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C.  -- Elated fans dressed in yellow and purple and red and gold will congregate in New Orleans La., Feb. 3, to witness a battle of two Harbaugh brothers - The Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers, but this battle is not only fought on the gridiron of New Orleans but also by the countless football fans here.

This widely televised event will be a chance for Airmen at Shaw Air Force Base to be resilient and take some down time to spend with friends and family.

The Ravens coached by Jim Harbaugh, and the 49ers, coached by John Harbaugh, will face off in the 47th Super Bowl.

Senior Airman Kevin Seney, 20th Comptroller squadron finance technician and Ukiah,Calif., native has never been more excited for a game, he said

"I have been a fan my whole life," said Seney. "Going to games with my step dad when I was a little kid are some of my favorite memories."

The 49ers have previously played in five Super Bowls and have been victorious in all of them.

Although it was an unexpected win among the spectators assigned to the 20th CPTS, more of his coworkers have jumped on the 49ers supporting bandwagon since San Francisco's win against Atlanta, said Seney.

"There was a lot of talk among my coworkers of how Atlanta was going to beat up on the 49ers, but now they seem to be a little bit quieter," he exclaimed.

On the other side of the house, is Maryland native Senior Airman Jeffrey Poore, U.S. Air Forces Central systems administrator, who isrooting for his home team as well--The Baltimore Ravens.

"I grew up 25 minutes from Baltimore, and I was always a Baltimore Orioles fan," said Poore. "So when the Ravens came to town it was just a natural fit. I think it will be a close game, but I have to go with the Ravens."

Not only is this an exciting event for Ravens fans because it is the first time their team will go to the Super Bowl in almost a decade, but it's also a comeback for one of their star players.

Ray Lewis, Ravens linebacker, is will retire soon after his 17th season.

"Being that this is his last year, it has really given the Ravens a winning incentive and a personal goal for him to end his career with a Super Bowl victory," said Senior Airman Andrew Purshock, 79th Aircraft Maintenance Unit crew chief.

Although this brotherly competition will have Airmen at Shaw taking sides, it is an opportunity to come together in the same.

"I think the Super Bowl is always a fun event that everyone gets on board for," said Seney. "It brings camaraderie. Finding fellow 49er fans is always an opportunity to meet new people."

The 20th Force Support Squadron will be holding a Super Bowl party, starting at 5 p.m., Feb. 3, at the Carolina Skies Club and Conference Center.
