2/27/2009 - SHAW AIR FORCE BASE,S.C. --  -- Taking care of Airmen is the primary role of the 20th Medical Group. The 20th MDG also stands above the rest with the first Enterprise Value Stream Analysis meeting for a medical group in Air Combat Command.

The main goal of the EVSA is to improve the quality of care for patients who depend on the 20th MDG. The Airmen in the group narrowed it down to focusing on maximizing efficiency of patient flow through the medical community. Another topic covered was the patient check-in process for deploying Airmen requiring routine checkups.

"The patients will receive the most benefit, because the key VSA was quality of patient care," said Capt. Marsha Doldron-Bryan, AFSO 21 facilitator for the 20th MDG. "Quality of care has always been a priority of the 20th MDG, and the EVSA highlights tools to implement this."

The 20th MDG EVSA is part of Air Force Smart Operations of the 21st Century. AFSO 21 improves mission capability while saving the Air Force money and man hours. The EVSA also helps prepare the 20th MDG for upcoming inspections that directly affect the whole base.

Airmen on Shaw AFB will benefit by having faster service in the clinic, and a set standard for deployers and base side personnel. By implementing AFSO 21 value stream analysis with rapid improvement events in the 20th MDG, it will upgrade the quality of care received by Shaw members.

"The EVSA is going to better prepare us to excel in the upcoming operation readiness exercises and health services inspections", said Master Sgt. Jerry Varner, assistant AFSO 21 facilitator for 20th MDG.
